Ctrl Z are a production duo hailing from London. They are one of the hottest acts in the breakbeat world and have become pioneers and trendsetters of harder edged breakbeat.
Tom Petais and Nicky D'Silva, aka Dash and Inch, met through the Community Music Program in London. The pairing up of these two DJs by their tutor was to be the start of something special. When Ctrl Z's first production was unleashed, it was snapped up by DJ Mutiny's Funkatech Recordings. 'Disko' and 'Pain' was a defining episode in break beat history as it caused a tidal wave in the Breaks scene. It blasted it's way straight to number 1 in the Mixmag charts and straight into the boxes of the Breakbeat elite. This dancefloor bomb paved the way for the duo, but was just a hint of what was to come.
They have over 40 releases and remixes under their belts on respected labels such as Against the Grain, Lot49, Botchit & Scarper, Passenger, Rat Records and Hardcore Beats. It is no surprise that after only a year in the business, Ctrl Z had the honour of receiving two nominations for Best Breakthrough Act and Best Breakthrough Producer at the 2005 Breakspoll Awards.
Their DJ sets have to be seen to be believed, headlining Events all over the world, In 2007 they were one of the main drawcards in Annie Nightingales Tent on the Opening night of the infamous Glastonbury festival and became residents at the legendary End club for DJ Friction's Shogun Audio Night. Always looking to take things to the next level, Ctrl Z have started their own label 'Never Say Die Records' in 2009 as an outlet for their ever changing and uncompromising sound.

Herbal Mafia - Thursday 11th March
Herbal Mafia finshes off the term with another huge 3 room party..featuring our old friend and pioneer of Drum&Bass; the legendary NICKY BLACKMARKET! A huge influence of the UK's underground music scene and he'll be treating us to a 2 HOUR SET!
We also welcome back another pioneer; this time of the dubstep sound, the man who introduced it to the north; DISTINCTION. With him and making their York debut are label-mates THE OTHERS, watch out for some of their collaborations...heavyweight!
IRIE VIBES will be taking over the upstairs with their blend of Reggae, Roots, Dancehall and Dubstep.... Downstairs in the 2nd room will be host to everything from D&B to electro and UK funky...something for everyone!

After a banging first event of the year, Irie Vibes brings another reggae reggae sesh to warm up your winter. As usual, there'll be deep reggae vibes to open the night, and all manner of dubstep filth to close it.
We're back with special guests ALILOU, MS. FABULOUS and GINEVRA doing their reggae ting, joined by a quality mix of guests and residents.
HOMECOOKED CARIBBEAN FOOD will be making another appearance, but when its gone its gone, so getting down a bit earlier would be recommended if you're wanting a plate of the hot goodness! VEGETARIAN DISH also now available, by popular request!

We welcome back the infallible NERO, they played our 1st birthday when they were still purely drum&bass producers, they were on Formation Records and virtually unknown but we saw talent when we heard it. For December's Freakin treat we welcome back the Chairman - the one and only Andrew Weatherall.
Those that came to freakin last year to see Andrew will know what a massive night this is - he is such a legend in the world of electronic dance music with his work on the Warp Label as Sabres of Paradise and Two Lone Swordsmen. His Production of Primal Scream's huge Screamadelica and his superb current solo releases on Rotters Golf Club, not to mention the fact that he is still regarded as of the World's greatest DJ's.
We love it when Weatherall is in Town! He will not disappoint and this is GUARENTEED to be one the best freakin's ever!!!!

No, seriously, shed be proud. Hijackeds second turn out at Yorks newest and only (literally!) underground venue, the Hub was a resounding success, a true party in Hijacked style, with record numbers through door and a stunning set from special guests, Leuce Rhythms, who, like all our guests, loved the night, loved the music and loved the crowd. We can expect to see those boys back for another slot sometime in the near future.

Jay Cunning's been in the mix since day one with various styles of Old Skool, House, DnB and dare we say it; Garage. In 1996 he started to consolidate this jockey sluttage and opted for a bit of monogamy and settled down with Breakbeat.
Nowadays his Weekly show on Kiss FM, international gigs and the running of Menu Music sees Jay as one of the hardest working DJs on the scene.
Since his early residency on Breaks FM back in 99 to his 5 year residency @ The End with Andy C's Ram Records Jay's versatility he's seen him putting about across the world from Russia to Canada, Spain to New Zealand and has acclaimed production collaborations with some of these scenes finest.
Jay joined forces with Atomic Hooligan in 2004 to form 'Menu Music', a concept that focus's on throwing up big party tunes on their now highly acclaimed record label.
2009 saw Jay pick up the mantle once more to start Sub Slayers, a brand new record label focusing on tough Breakbeat with a twist of Dubstep.
