HATCHA
No one DJ or indeed producer can claim sole credit for Dubstep. But when the history of the genre gets told, no DJ has ever had, or perhaps ever will again have so much influence over the course of the genre as Hatcha. Its no overstatement to say the entire genre bares his stamp.
Hatchas roots seep deep back into late 90s UK garage, Croydon and pirate radio. Originally the buyer at the now defunct Big Apple record shop, Hatcha was one of the very first DJs to pick up on the new dark strains of 2step that were being made by local producers like El-B, Artwork and Horsepower at the turn of the millennium. As the producers came into the shop to sell white labels of these niche new sounds, a community arose. The shop began its own label, Big Apple Records and its first release was the dubstep classic Red by the shops resident producer Artwork. The next releases came from his two protégés, Benga and Skream.
In 2001 Forward>>, dubsteps founding club, started with Hatcha a resident. It was here he began to up the ante. While other DJs came with a collection of white labels (tracks imminently due for a public release), he arrived with a box of upfront dubplates: unique one-off exclusive tracks from producers such as Skream, Benga, Mala, Coki and Loefah.
In 2003 he even played a part in naming the genre. Amidst the scenes key players: the Big Apple camp and Ammunition who ran Forward>> and Tempa, the term dubstep (from dubby 2step garage), began being circulated. It appeared in a press release and then on a US magazine cover. Hatcha was then asked to mix ... [Link]

IRIE VIBES 2nd BIRTHDAY FEAT. RSD/ROB SMITH
It's been an exceptional 2 years since Irie Vibes first started. Having played all over York and now residing at the Crescent WMC, it is regarded as one of York's best nights. So good that every headliner and soundsystem we have featured have asked to come back, even Channel One Soundsystem (they'll be back in a few months)! This is our first proper birthday celebration so we're going to do it in style:
Headlining we have the legendary RSD (Tectonic, Punchdrunk, Earwax), also known as ROB SMITH of the famous SMITH & MIGHTY Soundsystem. Responsible for making Bristol the home of cutting edge bass music since the late 80's, their pioneering experimentation in UK Dub, Reggae, Drum&Bass and now Dubstep has made them as influential now as they have been for the last 25 years. His versatility and selection makes for an incredible live show mixing between the freshest dubs and old school dancehall classics. Do not miss this chance to see his York debut.
Support comes from WREXILE, a Leeds/Braford based deep dubstep producer currently signed to Methodology, check out his tunes:

Hosted by the awesome PARLY B, this guy is making some serious tunes with producers from all over, check his latest mixtape:

Plus the Irie Vibes crew in force, playing the best in Reggae, Roots, Dancehall and Dub on our own custom built heavyweight soundsystem.
For just £5, this is not only a bargin but sure to be rammed! We are limited to 200 tickets on the door, there is no paying guestlist or advance tickets so make sure you're early to avoid disappointment and to make the most out of our extended menu of delicious Caribbean food.
This is an over 18's event and we will be checking ID so please make sure you bring it! [Link]
