Our New Home
21 March 2007
As you’re reading this, you’ve probably noticed that we’ve updated the Breakz site. Through other projects, I’ve been playing around with WordPress quite a lot recently, and I’ve wanted to move the Breakz site over to it for a while. WordPress is a great tool for managing the type and level of content Breakz has, running within a modern, (largely) standards-compliant framework.
So why should you care?
WordPress makes it a lot easier to update and manage content on the site, so we should be doing that more often to keep things nice and relevant. The new look hopefully makes finding your way around and reading things a bit easier too.
Events are automatically pulled from the forum and displayed in the main site.* Summaries of the latest gigs are shown on the home page, with full text on the events page. This gives your events a lot more exposure on the site than they may have had before.
Feed me
We’re now able to offer an RSS feed of the main site - in addition to the events feed - to keep you up to date with everything going on in our world from the comfort of your newsreader.** To give us a little more control over things and provide a better service to you, these are now routed through FeedBurner. Please set up / update your feeds to point to:
Over to you
If you have any questions, comments, suggestions, etc. please let me know. If something doesn’t appear to work (or doesn’t work as it should), or there’s something you (don’t) like, again please say. I believe the new site’s a good thing, but ultimately it it’s gotta be right for you, not for me. So I hope you like it. :p
Andrew
PS If you ever feel nostalgic, the old site is here.
* May take up to 1 hour from posting.
** If you haven’t yet tried RSS, why not give it a go? Get all the info you want, with none of the clutter. Some of the most popular services are Google homepage, Google Reader, My Yahoo and NewsGator, who also make the superb FeedDemon.
Update: There’s a nice introduction to RSS on Copyblogger.
