Hey all, Freshers week is fast approaching and we here at Breakz can’t wait! Several of our members are playing events all over campus during the week and we can’t wait to meet you all! If you want to learn how to DJ, we have several meetings and mixing sessions on throughout the first term, fortnightly on Wednesdays (weeks 1-9) at 7pm in D/L/036. In week 5 the meeting is being replaced by our Give It A Go session, same time, same place! We also have student run club nights in the works which are already proving to be really popular. Advance tickets available soon!
For the new year we need lots of new members to join the team to help with DJing, admin, promotion, graphic design and many other roles!
If you want to sign up you can do so here: Join Breakz
And be sure to like/follow us on facebook and twitter to stay posted!
Lots to come in the next term! From all here at Breakz, Peace.
From our friends at Outlook, introducing Outlook Festival:
For the 8th year, Outlook Festival brings the finest purveyors of dub, reggae, hip-hop, drum ‘n’ bass, garage, grime, dubstep and more to the Croatian seaside for a spectacular weekend. Set in an abandoned fort perched over the Adriatic Sea and a 2000-year old Roman Amphitheatre, the festival also features daytime beach sessions and countless boat parties.
After a short leave of absence, Breakz is back and ready to shake up York! The website is currently being updated for the newest Breakz generation, so stay posted for the latest updates. We’ve got big plans for the next term, so until then, from all here at Breakz, keep spinnin’! Peace.
This Friday (12th Oct) do not miss the Breakz takeover of Room 2 at Tokyo! Starting at 11 our resident DJs will be bringing everything underground!
BREAKZ IS BACK! It’s been a while since our last gig in town and we’re extreeeemely excited about these two bookings in Mansion Nightclub (formerly Ziggys).
NU:TONE [ HOSPITAL RECORDS ]
SILKIE [ DEEP MEDI / ANTI SOCIAL ]
Hospital Records are one of the most respected drum and bass labels in the dance music business. With their massive releases and fantastic Hospitality events, nobody can underestimate their influence on the modern dance scene, both in the UK and worldwide. We’re fantastically proud to get the almighty Nu:Tone for his debut in York. It’s sure to be an awesome set, and if you haven’t heard of him, we strongly recommend you check out his tunes.
Silkie is one of the pioneering figures in the dubstep scene, watching it grow from over a decade ago. Signed to Mala’s groundbreaking label Deep Medi, he has wowed critics and audiences alike with his melodic, energetic and jazzy take on the dubstep sound. With two albums, numerous EPs, as well as blinding sets at the biggest underground events; such as Outlook Festival, Subdub and DMZ, this is simply not one to be missed. This is a set to change the perceptions of everyone who thinks all dubstep sounds the same.
We are pleased to also welcome DJs from Circulation Magazine, the most respected music publication on York University’s campus, who have really been pushing great underground music in their reviews and interviews, both online and in print. They’ll be warming up with a mixture of some of the hottest music in 2012, as well as some classics.
